What We Believe

Worship is shown in a variety of ways, but it is always based in truth. Jesus told the Samaritan woman that God is looking for worshipers who will worship the Father in spirit and truth (John 4:23,24). So, our core beliefs are very important to the value of celebrating in worship. We do not get caught up in the ritualistic and theological minutiae that has too often distracted and divided the church.

Our goal is unity in truth.
What we believe matters and the following contains truths we adhere to.

  • God
We believe in one triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:2; Matthew 5:16; 6:1,4,8,9; John 1:1;14:9; John 4:24; 14:16-20; James 1:17.
  • Jesus
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to judge the living and the dead. Matthew 1:18; Luke 22:69-70; John 1:14; Acts 10:39-42; Romans 5:15-17, 19; I Corinthians 15:1-8; Col. 2:9.
  • Holy Spirit
We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit. His ministry is to glorify Jesus Christ, to convict men of sin, indwell, guide, instruct, comfort, and empower the believer for Godly living and service. All Christians have been promised the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in their lives. The Holy Spirit does what He wants when He wants, how He wants and yet promises His presence may be claimed at the point of conversion (1 Cor 6:19,20). The Holy Spirit then gives gifts of ministry to each, for the good of the body. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
  • The Bible
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God - "a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths." 2 Timothy 3:16; Psalm 119:105

We accept the Bible as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 5:18; 24:35; Romans 15:4; Hebrews 4:12
  • Sin and Salvation
We believe that every person has worth as a creation but that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, separating us from God. Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:2

We believe reconciliation, forgiveness of sins and eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. John 3:16; Ephesians 1:7; 1 John 5:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17-19

Those accepting Christ should repent of their sin, place their faith in Him and His substitionary death, burial and resurrection and submit to believers baptism. Romans 10:9-13; Romans 6:3-7
  • The Church
We believe that the Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to save the lost and edify the saved. Acts 2:14-47; Ephesians 4:1-16; 1 Corinthians 12:27

We believe that Jesus Christ will one day return for His church where believers will experience everlasting joy with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58

Loving God

Jesus said that the priority of our lives is to love God with all of our being. We express our love to God through a continual trust in putting Christ first in everything by our willingness to obey Him. Without reservation and by honoring Him we choose a lifestyle of worship where every daily activity is guided by Him and is also seen as an act of worship for His praise, glory and pleasure. Consistently expressing and experiencing personal and corporate worship, in its various forms, is the highest calling of every Christ follower. God's desire is that we experience and celebrate a loving relationship with Him through true heartfelt worship and fellowship.

Loving Others

We are created for community. A key factor in allowing the Lord to transform our lives into the image of Christ is to build healthy relationships with other Christians. The influence of other believers in our lives is a necessary part of maturing spiritually. Without a personal connection with others in Christ's body we lose our focus, stunt our spiritual growth, and diminish our opportunity to God's purpose in our lives. Being an active part of the Church is vital to open the doors of opportunity to express God's unconditional love. Being an active part of the body so God's unconditional love. The relationships we cultivate become our greatest opportunities to know God and experience Him more fully.

Eternal Difference

God has sent us into the world and into our community to be a positive influence and to make an eternal difference in people's lives. Even through small acts of service, we seek to make our community a better place simply because we are here. So, as Christ followers we seek to impact our community by sharing Him message of salvation and verifying it through service and life examples! We see to make an eternal difference in our world through touching peoples lives. Transformation

God's ultimate desire is for us to be transformed into His image. He welcomes us just as we are, but love us too much to let us remain the same without a higher knowledge, a better plan for our lives, and ways to revitalize and aid in transforming mankind for His Kingdom. Our main goal at Selmore is to help transform people's lives for eternity through the personal power of Jesus Christ. The process for that goal is to teach our people at every ministry opportunity to unconditionally love God and others with all of our being by serving and sharing Christ.
